Chimney Sweeps for Minehead, Exmoor, West Somerset and the Quantock Hills.

“Regular chimney & flue sweeping is very important to protect you, your family & your home”.

We are professional NACS approved chimney sweeps based in Minehead serving West Somerset, Exmoor and the Quantock hills. Journeyman Chimney Services offer an all-inclusive chimney and flue safety inspection, sweeping and testing service for all solid fuel, oil, gas & biomass chimneys and flues.

Having your chimneys and flues professionally swept, inspected & tested by Journeyman Chimney Services – chimney sweeps using modern techniques – is both quick and clean.

As chimney sweeps we use both traditional rods with polypropylene brushes for acidic soot and light creosote and power sweeping rods with a rotary nylon head or brushes for the removal of corrosive, flammable creosote and tar. Both techniques, used hand in hand with an industrial filtered Hepa vacuum, mean cleaner, safer chimneys and flues and no mess in your home.

 Carbon Monoxide & chimney fires.

It’s a fact that blocked chimneys, restricted flue-ways and choked stove throat plates can all contribute towards a dangerous and potentially poisonous carbon monoxide (CO) build-up within your home.

Journeyman not only sweep chimneys and flues to remove the build up of soot, creosote & tar, we also clear birds’ nests and other blockages making chimneys and flues safe for use again. Tarry chimneys and blocked flues pose a significant chimney and flue fire risk so ensure your chimney is swept, inspected and tested regularly by a NACS/HETAS approved professional chimney sweep.

It is vital that a complex flue is CCTV inspected after the sweeping and removal of Birds Nests to ensure the flue way is clear of any potential future fire and Carbon Monoxide poisoning risk. We will always conduct this survey and inspection before a NACS certificate of sweeping is issued.

Insurance industry approved Chimney Sweeps.

Journeyman Chimney Services are fully insured and can issue the National Industry Standard insurance approved National Association of Chimney Sweeps, Certificate of Chimney Sweeping on completion of all our work, without which your house insurance could be invalid in the event of a chimney fire claim. All chimneys, flues & appliances are professionally swept, inspected & tested to NACS approved quality standards.

Whatever you have – a small or large open fire, a wood burning or multi fuel stove, an Aga or Rayburn range, whatever the fuel; coal, wood, oil or gas – for safe, informed & practical chimney and flue solutions – Journeyman Chimney Services are able to help & advise.

How often should you have your chimneys and flues swept?

Smokeless Fuels, have your chimneys and flues swept at least once a year.
Bituminous House Coals and Well Seasoned Wood*, once per season when in use.
Oil & Gas flues can be swept once a year. However, Journeyman suggests you seek the advice of your Gas Safe (gas) or Oftec (oil) registered engineer at the time of the appliance’s service.

Some solid fuel appliances may need more frequent sweeping depending on the amount of use, the fuel used and the dimensions and type of flue you have.

* For the best results ensure that all wood has been well seasoned and has moisture content of at most 25% or lower before using. House coal should be stored in a dry bunker.
